HOW TO MEASURE A CORRUGATED BOX
- The inside dimensions of a box are critical for proper fit
around your product.
- Our box manufacturing is based around this fit. At the
same time, outside dimensions must be considered for proper palletization and
distribution.
- Dimensions can
be stated in inches and fractions or in metric units.
- Dimensions are always given in the sequence of length, width and depth.
- Some use the terms length, breadth and height. Length is always the larger of
the two dimensions of the open face of a box as it is set up for filling
- (see #1 in the illustration above). Width is the smaller dimension of the
open face. Depth is the distance perpendicular to the length and width.
- End opening boxes (#2 in the illustration above) are measured as
though they were top-opening.
- Tubes and folders with three dimensions are measured in the same
way as boxes. Pads, partitions pieces and sheets are measured somewhat differently,
the first of the two dimensions has the greater stacking strength, that is, parallel to
the flute direction of the corrugated board.
- Materials used for board combination and meeting carrier
regulations depend on: 1) product, 2) the customer, 3) the destination; and 4) the method
of transportation. Beacon's design and technical personnel are ready and able
to help you identify your requirements, if needed.
